Paul George eager for Sixers to have Joel Embiid return vs. Knicks
PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are sitting at 2-7 following a 107-105 overtime win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night at home. The Sixers received a big effort out of rookie Jared McCain who had 27 points, 23 after halftime, in order to come up with the win.
With that being said, the Sixers can now look ahead to the return of Joel Embiid.
The Sixers will begin NBA Cup group play on Tuesday when they play host to the New York Knicks and it means the big fella is set to make his season debut. He had missed the first nine games of the season with first an injury and then a league suspension following a physical altercation with a reporter.
Paul George, who had 15 points and nine assists in the win over the Hornets, is ready to have Embiid join the Sixers on the floor finally.
“Yeah,” George said succinctly. “I mean, obviously, we’re not where we want to be without the big fella, someone as talented as him, and, obviously, he’s the piece. So absolutely. Absolutely.”
The Sixers have struggled mightily on either end of the floor without Embiid to begin the season. It makes sense why they have when considering the fact that they built this roster in his image and how they operate.
While they should still be able to find a way to play at a higher level, George and the Sixers are looking forward to having the 2023 MVP winner back on the floor.
“We should still be playing at a high level and competing, trying to win games,” George finished. “But no doubt about it, you get somebody back like that, it’ll make everybody’s job a little easier.”
