Giants reunite with OL Tyre Phillips among practice squad moves
The New York Giants today reunited with Tyre Phillips when they signed the 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive lineman to their practice squad among a series of moves.
The team also added veteran quarterback Tim Boyle, who has appeared in 22 games and made five starts over six seasons, to the practice squad and released linebacker Curtis Bolton, tight end/fullback Jakob Johnson, and offensive tackle Garret Greenfield.
Phillips started 14 games for the Giants from 2022-23, including nine last season at right tackle before he tore a quad tendon in Week 17. Phillips underwent surgery for the injury and had been a free agent until now.
Originally a third-round draft choice by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020, Phillips has started 27 games in his career at every offensive line position except center (19 at right tackle, six at right guard, one at left guard, and one at left tackle). He also made two postseason starts with Baltimore at right tackle.
Prior to the NFL, Phillips played in 26 games with 13 starts at Mississippi State. As a senior in 2019, he started all 13 games at left tackle and participated in a team-high 821 snaps (819 at left tackle and two at left guard). He also spent two seasons (2015-16) playing guard for East Mississippi Community College. Phillips participated in the Senior Bowl (2020) and was a three-time Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient (2017-19).
Boyle, 6-4 and 233 pounds, played two games for the Miami Dolphins this season before his release on Oct. 26. Undrafted out of Eastern Kentucky in 2018, he has also spent time with the Packers (2018-2020), Lions (2021), Bears (2022), Jets (2023), and Texans (2024). His career numbers include 129 completions on 209 attempts (61.7 percent) for 1,087 yards, four touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
