Daniel Jones, also known as “Danny Dimes,” is an American football quarterback. He played college football for Duke Blue Devils and was drafted sixth overall in 2019 by the New York Giants. Jones signed a 4-year, $160 million extension with the Giants in 2022 but was benched midway through the 2024 season and released after six seasons.

Born on June 30, 1997, she hails from Cleveland, where she lettered in lacrosse playing for St. Anthony’s High School varsity, receiving all-league honors and being an Under Armour Underclass All-American. She also lettered twice in tennis and amassed 61 goals, 42 assists, and 66 ground balls throughout her high school career. She attended Duke after high school.
She came away with a Bachelor of Science in Evolutionary Biology and Global Health. She played for Duke’s women’s lacrosse team, registering 16 points, nine goals, seven assists, and 13 ground balls throughout her four seasons. Bonafede stayed on the ACC Academic Honor Roll for all four seasons at Duke.
After graduating, she pursued a career in medicine and research. She pursued a master’s degree at New York University, majoring in MPH, nutrition, and food policy. In 2020, she joined the CITI program and earned certification for good clinical practice and biomedical research.

Daniel Jones was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. On July 22, 2019, Jones signed his four-year rookie contract, worth $25.664 million, including a $16.7 million signing bonus. Jones was chosen to be a team captain during his second year. It had been the fourteenth straight season that a Giants’ starting quarterback was serving as a captain as well, in this case for the last thirteen of them by Eli Manning.
On March 7, 2023, he agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Giants. In week 5, Jones suffered a neck injury in a loss to the Miami Dolphins. He had missed three games, but returned in week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders when his knee injured in the first quarter before leaving the game early in the second quarter when it buckled as he dropped back.

Jones was benched on November 18, 2024, by Andy Reid and replaced with Tommy Devito. Two days later on November 22, Jones requested to be released from his Giants deal, and owner-president John Mara granted that request. Jones concluded his six-year stint in New York with a 24–44–1 record as a starter, worst winning percentage among QBs with at least 50 starts since 2019. He also had the lowest TD percentage at 3.1% among QBs with at least 1,000 pass attempts in that time frame.
