New York is the world’s most coveted travel destination for 2025, according to this study

Each December, the Condé Nast Traveller team begins to look ahead to the following year. We start to think about what travel trends we might see in the coming months. Last year, we predicted the rise of astro tourism, a trend that has gradually gained traction throughout 2024, culminating in the surge of “astrocartology”, where star-gazing travellers look to the skies above to plan their next holiday. The continued rise of gig tripping was another of our 2024 forecasts, as new music festivals encouraged travellers to visit new, exciting destinations around the world, as well as rebirth of glamorous train travel – a trend now seeping into 2025 as Belmond announces the launch of a new sleeper train taking travellers around England and Wales.

We’re not the only ones predicting how travel will continue to excite, delight and charm travellers in 2025. Global hospitality group Accor has recently released its 2025 Travel Trend Report, an investigation which uses survey insights and two years of UK search data to anticipate the most sought-after destinations and travel habits for the coming year. As part of the research, Accor has announced 20 trending destinations for 2025 – the places around the world expected to draw in travellers in the new year, based on the search and media trends around them.

According to the report, New York is the biggest trending destination for 2025. The Big Apple has long topped lists for the best city-break locations, so this doesn’t come as a surprise. See below for our ultimate guide to your next NYC holiday.

In second place came Singapore – a country voted the friendliest city in the world in Condé Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Choice Awards, as well as a dedicated eco-destination, with plans to greenify the city-state by 2030. The Maldives came in third place, followed by Mauritius in fourth and the Dominican Republic in fifth – three destinations known for their breathtaking beaches, golden sands and azure waters.
