Lufthansa expands Green Fares to long-haul flights

The Lufthansa Group will extend its Green Fares to include long-haul flights starting December 4.

This tariff, already available on short- and medium-haul routes, includes the full offset of flight-related carbon emissions using sustainable aviation fuel and investments in climate projects.

Since its introduction in February 2023, more than two million passengers have chosen Green Fares, offsetting nearly 190 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide – the equivalent of over 1 300 flights between Munich and New York. The fare also offers perks like additional loyalty points and free rebooking.

Lufthansa’s Chief Commercial Officer, Dieter Vranckx, emphasised the airline’s commitment to sustainable aviation.

“Extending Green Fares to the Lufthansa Group’s global long-haul network is an enormously important and consistent step – not only for us but for the entire aviation industry.”

Green Fares are available across Lufthansa Group airlines, including Austrian Airlines, SWISS and Brussels Airlines. Passengers can also offset emissions on other fare types during or after booking.
