New York Jets will begin searching for a new general manager this week, with interviews set to take place after the unexpected firing of Joe Douglas | NFL News – Times of India
The New York Jets will start looking for people to fill two positions in their team management – general manager and head coach. As per the rules of the National Football League, the New York Jets actually can’t just start looking for coaches immediately as teams cannot interview any coach who is working with another team until the regular season ends. Hence, the New York Jets have taken the search for a general manager more seriously at least until the regular season ends next month and will start conducting interviews from this week.
The former general manager Joe Douglas was fired on 19th November. Douglas was with the team for over 5 seasons so when the New York Jets fired him, it was extremely shocking. Starting this week, the Jets will be extensively looking for talented people to fill in the shoes of Douglas.
The New York Jets Will Be Conducting Interviews For General Manager This Week
According to sources, Jen Robinson and Louis Riddick have been considered to replace Douglas but nothing has been confirmed yet either by the New York Jets or by Robinson and Riddick. The New York Jets are leaving no stone unturned to hire the best talent this time; they do not want to repeat the mistakes of last time and are now working extensively with consultants to select the right people for the team. Former general manager of the New York Jets Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman, the former general manager of the Minnesota Vikings have also been asked by the New York Jets to help in the search for a talented general manager for the 2025 season of the National Football League.
The New York Jets Went Through A Lot Of Drama This Season
The team has not been able to perform well this season and this has added to the worries of the team’s management. One of their star players, Aaron Rodgers’ future is also doubtful as there are rumours that he might just retire after this season.
The New York Jets had to navigate this season in the midst of a lot of drama; the months of October and November saw them firing head coach Robert Saleh and then Joe Douglas. Robert Saleh was fired after the New York Jets lost to the Minnesota Vikings back in Week 5
While firing Joe Douglas, the New York Jets issued a statement that said, “I want to thank Joe for his commitment to the Jets over the last six years and wish him and his family the best moving forward. Phil Savage will be the interim general manager for the remainder of the season. We will begin the process to identify a new General Manager immediately.”
