NFL power rankings round-up 2024: How do Giants fare entering Week 16?

The New York Giants were manhandled by the Baltimore Ravens, 35-15, on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, where another fan protest took place in the form of a plane banner reading, “Mr. Mara enough. We won’t stop until you fire everyone.”

It’s the second consecutive week a banner flew over the stadium and unfortunately for the Giants, it was the highlight of the day.

The Giants have now lost a franchise-record nine straight games and are 0-8 at home on the season. They play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16 before returning to MetLife Stadium in Week 17 to host the Indianapolis Colts. They could become the first team in NFL history to lose nine home games in a single season.

As we enter Week 16, here’s a look at where the Giants place in a multitude of power rankings.

Nate Davis, USA TODAY:

Hard to figure how QB4 Tim Boyle keeps getting hired – didn’t the Giants see him play for the Jets in 2023? – but this franchise seems determined to make its 100th season its worst.

Barry Werner, List Wire:

The Giants had no answer for Lamar Jackson. Not a surprise, since they haven’t had an answer for anyone this season.

NFL Nation, ESPN:

Look, it’s slim pickings here with the Giants on a nine-game skid. But the running game has gotten progressively better. With rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. as the lead option, New York had a three-game stretch in November when it averaged 163 rushing yards per game. Some of the credit needs to go to the offensive line. This is the strength of the now-beleaguered unit.

Vinnie Iyer, The Sporting News:

The Giants can’t get out of their own way or keep quarterbacks healthy. They probably won’t keep Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator, either.

Frank Schwab, Yahoo! Sports:

The Giants aren’t leaving much doubt about them getting a top-two draft pick. They aren’t competitive, more injuries at quarterback have made them even worse, and it’s hard to see them winning another game.

Diante Lee, The Ringer:

With quarterback Drew Lock already inactive because of injuries and Tommy DeVito exiting Sunday’s game with a concussion, the Giants had to turn to journeyman quarterback Tim Boyle to finish the game. This has been a disaster of a season for New York, yet sending Boyle into a game against the Ravens was a new circle of hell. He completed 12 of his 24 pass attempts, but most of those completions felt like accidents, and the Ravens missed several opportunities to make Boyle’s stat line look even worse. I’m begging the Giants to do whatever it takes to fix this quarterback situation in 2025.

Eric Edholm, NFL.com:

They’ve lost nine straight games and are one more MetLife Stadium defeat away from the NFL’s first 0-9 home record, with the Colts coming to town in Week 17. They’re also closing in on the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, running neck and neck with the Raiders in this race to the bottom. The good news, if you’re rooting for New York to land the top pick, is that the Giants have the tougher schedule between the two teams down the stretch, starting with this Sunday’s game at Atlanta. Who’ll start at QB for the Giants in that one? Uhh. Tommy DeVito was knocked out of Sunday’s game against the Ravens with a concussion. With Drew Lock seen last week in a walking boot, Tim Boyle came off the practice squad to execute about as well as you could have hoped for in relief of DeVito, and it still wasn’t close to enough. If you want to knock Brian Daboll for how his teams handled other close losses against middle-tier opponents, have at it. But his team had no shot Sunday. The G-Men have been completely outgunned against their best opponents this season, which should be a stark reminder for the offseason of where this team stands — and has stood for some time.

Alex Kennedy, Pro Football Network:

This has been a season to forget for New York. The Giants lost their ninth consecutive game on Sunday, getting blown out 35-14 by Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Jackson did whatever he wanted, completing 21 of 25 passes for 290 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions while adding 65 rushing yards.

Offensively, the Giants played their fourth quarterback of the season, with Tim Boyle stepping under center since Tommy DeVito suffered a concussion and Drew Lock had heel and elbow injuries. Boyle was fine, but this season can’t end soon enough for New York.

Fortunately for the Giants, PFN’s model currently gives New York the best odds (36.8%) to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. New York still has contests against the Eagles, Colts, and Falcons (road).

It will be interesting to see if the Giants part ways with head coach Brian Daboll. While he’s had some tough outings, plenty of franchises would love to hire him if New York fires him.
