Texans vs. Chiefs prediction: NFL Week 16 player props, picks, best bets, odds
Xavier Worthy is quickly becoming a favorite of Patrick Mahomes on the outside.
After spending most of the first half of his rookie year as a sort of secret weapon for Andy Reid’s offense, Worthy has seen a big increase in his target share of late.
The Texas product has the second-most targets (35) on the Chiefs over the last five weeks, trailing only future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce.
He’s turned those targets into some pretty solid yardage over that period as well, averaging 49.6 yards through the air on 4.8 catches per game.
Texans vs. Chiefs odds
Team | Spread | Odds | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Texans | +3.5 (-120) | +152 | o41.5 (-115) |
Chiefs | -3.5 (-102) | -180 | u41.5 (-105) |
The Texans’ pass defense has been strong overall this season, but it’s shown some cracks of late, allowing 6.4 yards per attempt over the last three games, which is slightly below average.
Worthy may catch a break in terms of his matchup, too.
Star cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. will likely match up against five-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins, which could funnel more passes to Worthy’s side of the field.
Oddsmakers aren’t expecting much from Worthy, pegging his receiving yards total well below his recent production.
Betting on the NFL?
Worthy has tallied 61, 46, 54, 41 and 46 receiving yards, respectively, over his last five games since tallying 11 yards over a two-game stretch in November.
He tallied six catches for 46 yards on 11 targets in the 21-7 win over the Browns last week, while adding three rushes for 30 yards and one touchdown.
This is a nice spot to buy a young receiver on the come up – it may only take a couple of catches to hit the Over.
The play: Xavier Worthy Over 38.5 receiving yards (-115, DraftKings Sportsbook)
