New York Subway Horror: Man sets sleeping woman on fire in train car – Full story here – World News

A horrifying incident in New York City has left the internet terrified and in shock. A man in New York has been arrested after setting a woman on fire inside a train car, leading to her horrific death. The crime has been described as “senseless”, with authorities calling it one of the most brutal acts a person could commit against another. The appalling incident took place on Sunday morning around 7:30 am as the suspect and the victim were aboard an F train heading to the Stillwell Avenue station in Brooklyn. As the train approached the station, the suspect walked up to the victim, who was sitting near the end of the train car. The victim was reportedly sleeping when the man set her on fire. He allegedly used a lighter to light her clothing on fire, causing it to quickly engulf in flames.

Officers patrolling the station above the platform noticed the smoke and immediately went to investigate. They found the victim standing inside the train, fully consumed by flames. The officers were able to put out the fire with the help from an MTA worker and a fire extinguisher but it was too late, and the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Disturbing video footage revealed that the suspect was observing the horrific scene calmly with an unsettlingly indifferent expression. Police were able to identify him through body camera footage from responding officers. After releasing the images, three local high school students recognised the suspect and called 911. He was soon arrested aboard another train, where he was found with a lighter in his possession.

During a press briefing, New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch condemned the act, emphasising that it claimed the life of an “innocent New Yorker.”

The suspect is a 33-year-old Sebastin Zapeta, is thought to have arrived in the United States from Guatemala around a year ago. It is still unknown whether his entry was legal or unauthorized. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Mayor Eric Adams expressed his gratitude to those who helped identify the suspect and condemned the violent act. He said that the authorities are committed to provide swift justice for victims of violent crime. He also extended his condolences to the victim’s family.
