Kendrick Perkins likens New York Knicks OG Anunoby to legendary Chicago Bulls star, ‘been looking like…’
The New York Knicks seem to have found the perfect formula for success this season and stars are stepping up across the court.
Despite losing their nine-game unbeaten run in a 117-107 defeat to an Oklahoma City Thunder side who sit top of the Western Conference with a 19-5 record, the Knicks are still having a strong season.
Karl-Anthony Towns is well on his way to a potential MVP win and while he is getting many of the plaudits the Knicks have made some really strong trades in recent years which are paying fruit.
The Knicks recently created NBA history with their shared scoring efforts and one man has caught the eye of former NBA star Kendrick Perkins.
OG Anunoby likened to Scottie Pippen
While Anunoby may not be a name that instantly comes to mind when you think of the stars of the NBA, he’s certainly valued by Knicks fans.
The 27-year-old who joined in a trade from the Toronto Raptors in December 2023 recently dropped a career-best night of 40 points against the Denver Nuggets.
The London-born baller scored another 20 points while adding 2 rebounds and 3 assists in the defeat over the Thunder and Kendrick Perkins paid the star some high praise.
Tweeting out to his followers on X, Perkins said: “OG been looking like 2025 Scottie Pippen.”
It’s certainly not bad to be likened to a six-time NBA Champion who also finished his career with over 18,000 points.
Anunoby having wide impact on Knicks
Anunoby is dropping some of the best numbers of his NBA career this season with the Knicks and it’s not just his points-scoring that is impressing onlookers.
The former Raptors man has recorded at least 20 points in back-to-back games and has reached the 18-point plateau in three consecutive outings – it’s safe to say his shooting slump is in the rearview.
He has also been effective without the ball and is averaging 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. Perhaps most impressively Anunoby held the Thunder to 2/8 FG as the primary defender in their latest game.
His Knicks teammates are certainly happy to have the ‘2025 Scottie Pippen’ on their side as his hard work and never-say-die attitude are certainly spreading through the team.
