Amazon founder Jeff Bezos targets NFL ownership again, now a favorite for New York Jets after Commanders bid fell short | NFL News – Times of India

The possibility of Jeff Bezos entering the NFL ownership circle has created a lot of buzz, with reports suggesting that the Amazon founder is a frontrunner to buy the New York Jets. This comes after Bezos, who boasts an astonishing net worth of $223 billion, missed out on acquiring the Washington Commanders last year, being outbid by Josh Harris’s group in a $6 billion deal. With Forbes estimating the Jets at $6.9 billion, according to the online gambling site Bovada, Bezos would likely be the first in line should the franchise ever be put up for sale.

Jeff Bezos eyes the New York Jets

The Jets have been in the hands of Woody Johnson since 2000, but the journey has not been a smooth one. Acquired at $635 million, the value of the team has grown exponentially, but so have their losses. The Jets hold the dubious distinction of having the NFL’s longest playoff drought.

Fans have grown increasingly restless, seeing frequent changes in head coaches and general managers—most recently, Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas were dismissed. Despite rumors of legendary coach Bill Belichick potentially stepping in, many believe the franchise requires a deeper transformation.

Woody Johnson’s Future and Bezos’s Opportunity

Former President Donald Trump’s role as Ambassador to the United Kingdom adds another layer to this story. With Trump at the helm and poised for another potential political resurgence, the man is expected to return to diplomacy, possibly at the ambassadorial position Johnson held. In that event, his brother Christopher Johnson is likely to take over the daily running of the team. This being said, speculation lingers that Johnson might opt for selling the team, which means Bezos would be in it.
NFL fans have observed that the franchise change has breathed new life into the team, just like in Washington Commanders. In under new ownership, the Washington Commanders are thriving as seen with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels who is driving his team to the verge of playoff contention in the highly competitive NFC East. More so, Bezos’s business sense combined with his vision would revitalize the Jets if he incorporates a culture of patience when trusting his coaching and his management team.

A Brighter Future for Jets Fans?

For the sake of Jets fans, Bezos’s possible entry may bring with it an era of much-needed stability and success. He has a history of building innovation and winning systems in the corporate world and could easily translate that over to the football field. His ability to break from the franchise’s history of knee-jerk decisions and instead invest in sustainable growth would be exactly what fans are begging to see.
