American student, 19, allegedly gang-raped in Italian beach town

A 19-year-old American exchange student was allegedly gang-raped in Italy after going to a party at a beach resort, according to authorities — who are investigating if she was drugged.

The unidentified teen told local police she was attacked in August at the resort in Punta Marina Terme, a town outside Ravenna in northern Italy, Italian outlet Corriera Della Sera reported.

Police have so far questioned two 20-year-old Italian men over the alleged rape but no arrests have been made. Neither has been identified.

Investigators have enlisted help to determine whether the accuser was given a date rape drug before she was allegedly assaulted, according to the outlet.

The American woman was studying abroad at the time and reported the attack to the woman she was staying with, before telling her parents in the US, the report said.

She went to a local hospital a day later to be examined — and then immediately left the country to head back home, the report said, without saying where in the US she was from.

It wasn’t clear how long the young woman had been in Italy or where she was studying.
