Anthony Edwards and Wolves’ new star outclassing Knicks in crucial category | Sporting News

Perhaps the most surprising move of the NBA summer was long-time Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns being dealt to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle.

It’s rather easy to predict which team won the trade in many scenarios, but not this one. The Wolves were fresh off a Western Conference Finals appearance while the Knicks had already traded for Mikal Bridges earlier in the offseason.

Roughly ten games into the regular season, and one statistic has its winner. Anthony Edwards and Randle have the most 20-point games by a duo (7) in the league, not just ahead of the Knicks. The Minnesota cornerstone is yet to record less than 20, meaning Randle has tallied more than 20 in seven of their nine games.

Alternatively, the Knicks tandem of Jalen Brunson and Towns have only met this milestone four times this year. It’s worth noting New York has many more mouths to feed on offense with Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart.

Most doubted how Edwards and Randle would mesh with their majorly different playstyles, but there’s been no problems thus far. The 23-year-old guard spoke about his level of comfortability alongside Randle after Friday’s victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

“Super comfortable man,” Edwards told reporters. “I told him like I’m cool with just throwing him the ball, spotting up, and playing off of him cause every time he drives, there’s two or three people down there, man, and everybody’s open. We tell him [to] punish the switches, if they trap you, we here for you, so we really want to play off him for real.”

This statistic by no means points to Towns underperforming with his new team, as he’s averaging 24.3 points and 12.8 rebounds on 55.6% shooting from three-point range.
