Are the New York Giants No. 1 or No. 2 in 2025 NFL Draft order?
In our 2025 NFL Draft Order post from Sunday we have the 2-9 New York Giants with the No. 2 overall pick after they were humiliated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 30-7.
NFL.com has the Giants with the No. 1 overall pick.
It doesn’t really matter because the draft is not being held this week, and there are six more weeks of football before the selection order for non-playoff teams is finalized. It is, though, a discussion point — especially with the Giants likely strongly considering using their first pick on a quarterback.
So, why the difference?
It is all about how ‘Strength of Schedule’ is calculated into the draft order.
Tankathon, the site we use each week to show where the Giants are in the current order, breaks ties based on Strength of Schedule for all 17 games on a team’s schedule. That means it includes the won-loss percentages of the teams remaining on the schedule over the final six games.
NFL.com uses only “Year to date Strength of Schedule,” meaning ties are broken based strictly on games already played.
So, if you are looking at those and wondering why there is a discrepancy this week or at any point between now and the end of the season that’s why.
Either way, what matters is the order at the end after all of the games have been played. The Giants have a good shot at the No. 1 overall pick, whether you think they are tanking by playing Tommy DeVito at quarterback or not.
ESPN’s Football Power Index projects the Giants will end up as the league’s worst team, giving them that No. 1 pick.
That is something the Giants have not had since 1965, 60 years ago, when they selected running back Tucker Frederickson.
