Bears’ million WR could cut ties with Chicago to join New York Giants | Sporting News

As the New York Giants attempt to usher in a new era following the benching of quarterback Daniel Jones, the upcoming offseason will bring plenty of intrigue.

Assuming general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll retain their roles, which is currently the thought process despite the team’s struggles, there will be a lot of work to do in order to field a competitive roster in 2025.

Addressing the quarterback position will be the first objective, and it’s expected that the Giants will have one of the top rookies coming in from the 2025 NFL draft.

Surrounding that rookie with as much talent as possible will be crucial, and Matt Holder of Bleacher Report believes the Giants should go after one of the most consistent names at the wide receiver position.

“The Bears added Keenan Allen this past offseason to provide a security blanket for Caleb Williams. While the veteran receiver hasn’t produced eye-catching numbers in Chicago, he has added a veteran presence to the locker room,” Holder wrote. “Allen could do the same for the Giants, possibly at a team-friendly price point.

The Chicago Bears wideout was traded from the Los Angeles Chargers last offseason in a cost-cutting effort to get his $80 million contract off the books.

Turning 33 years old in April, it’s likely that Allen will be one of the cheaper options on the market next offseason, assuming he wants to continue playing.

In eight games this season, Allen has recorded 30 receptions for 282 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 9.4 yards per catch on 56 targets. All of those project to be the lowest marks of his career when accounting for his fully healthy seasons.

With the likely departure of Darius Slayton and the lack of development of Jalin Hyatt means the Giants will be in the market to add another receiver to work alongside Malik Nabers.

Whether the Giants will be interested in potentially adding the aging veteran is another conversation entirely, but it could be something to keep an eye on.
