Big-Time New York Sports and Entertainment Stars Back TGL’s New York Golf Club

In addition to being owned by New York Mets owner Steve Cohen, there are some big-name investors for the New York Golf Club, which will be a part of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL, which tees off in January.

Cohen, who acquired the rights to the team when the league was originally announced last year, announced that limited partners in the investor group include Derek Jeter (who played for the New York Yankees, ironically), New York Giants Super Bowl champions Eli Manning and Michael Strahan, tennis legend John McEnroe, and late-night TV host Jimmy Fallon.

Cohen told CNBC in a statement.

“New York has the greatest fans in the world, and we have built a team that will make New Yorkers proud. We believe this fresh, innovative take on the sport will appeal to traditional and new golf fans alike.”

The NY team will consist of two-time major winner Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young. They are one of six teams that will compete in the prime-time tournament that will consist of two-hour matches that will be played over a three-month period.

The TGL will be played in a custom-made arena in West Palm Beach, Florida, called the SoFi Center. It will feature a combination of virtual and real-life golf shots. The league was set to start play in early 2024, but the original version of the arena collapsed and needed to be rebuilt.
