Breaking down Knicks’ 2024-25 roster heading into NBA training camp

The Post’s Stefan Bondy takes a deep dive into the Knicks’ 2024-25 roster before training camp begins.

Precious Achiuwa

Age: 24

Position: F/C

Height/Weight: 6-8/243

A late signing for frontcourt depth, Achiuwa has a lot to prove after a tepid free agency market left him with a one-year, $6 million deal. He was a capable backup last season and will be in the mix for heavy frontcourt minutes again off the bench.

OG Anunoby

Age: 27

Position: F

Height/Weight: 6-7/240

The brand new owner of the largest payday in Knicks history, Anunoby boosts the Knicks’ ceiling with his defensive versatility. His plus-minus numbers were outrageously impressive last season. But questions remain about his availability: can he stay healthy?

Mikal Bridges

Age: 28

Position: G/F

Height/Weight: 6-6/209

Reunited with his Villanova buddies after a disappointing season across the river, Bridges is back to where he thrived in Phoenix as the third offensive option. He becomes eligible for a two-year extension on the first day of training camp, but would likely earn much more by waiting to either extend next summer or sign as a free agent in 2026.

Jalen Brunson

Age: 28

Position: PG

Height/Weight: 6-2/190

The franchise’s best point guard since Clyde Frazier will try to top the heroics of last season. He’s healed from hand surgery and signed until 2029 with a new captain title and a stated goal of the conference finals.

Pacome Dadiet

Age: 19

Position: F

Height/Weight: 6-7/200

A rocky Summer League reinforced that Dadiet is a long-term project likely destined for the G-League. But the teenaged Frenchman is also a player of intrigue during camp as the franchise’s first first-round draft pick since Quentin Grimes.

Josh Hart

Age: 29

Height/Weight: 6-4/214

Rapidly becoming one of those sports folk heroes who are beloved beyond their statistical contributions, Hart, projected as the starting small forward, plugs whatever holes are leaking. He’s never been big on practice, however, so training camp isn’t Hart’s time to shine.

Ariel Hukporti

Age: 22

Position: C

Height/Weight: 6-11/246

Hukporti, a second-round rookie, fits a mold of a Thibodeau center as a big body who works almost exclusively around the rim. He signed a two-way contract, but there’s potential for NBA minutes if there are injuries to the Knicks’ frontcourt. The German showed flashes in Summer League after carrying a previously undisclosed meniscus injury around the time of the draft, a source said.

Tyler Kolek

Age: 23

Position: PG

Height/Weight: 6-1/195

It’s a big training camp/preseason for Kolek, who has a chance to crack the rotation. That doesn’t happen often for second-round rookies on a contender. And it won’t be easy. The Knicks’ backcourt is stacked, but Kolek offers something the other backup guards don’t — high-level floor generalship.

Miles McBride

Age: 24

Position: G

Height/Weight: 6-1/195

McBride’s giant leap last season with his outside shot leaves us wondering whether there’s another level in Year 4. Following the Karl-Anthony Towns trade and departure of Donte DiVincenzo, McBride should be the first guard off the bench.

Kevin McCullar Jr.

Age: 23

Position: F

Height/Weight: 6-5/206

Carried an upside comparison to Hart when drafted in the second round this year, but McCullar hasn’t played since March 9 because of a knee injury. He missed all of Summer League, and it’s unclear if he’ll be ready for camp.

Cam Payne

Age: 30

Position: G

Height/Weight: 6-3/183

Another Knicks lefty and high-intensity personality who was a contributor to an NBA Finalist in Phoenix just three years ago. Theoretically fills a hole at backup point guard but will have to beat out Kolek/McBride to get those minutes.

Mitchell Robinson

Age: 26

Position: C

Height/Weight: 7-0/250

Not expected to play until at least December while recovering from foot surgery, Robinson’s availability can’t be assumed this season. He’s a defensive and rebounding menace when healthy, but foot problems and centers are a bad mix.

Landry Shamet

Age: 27

Position: G

Height/Weight: 6-4/190

A veteran shooter who arrives in Charleston without a guaranteed contract but expected to make final roster. With Donte DiVincenzo gone, Shamet has an opportunity to fight for Knicks minutes after playing last season with the Wizards.

Jericho Sims

Age: 25

Position: C

Height/Weight: 6-10/250

The only healthy traditional backup center on the roster, Sims can make his case for a rotation spot during camp and preseason. Athletically, he’s the most gifted on the roster but needs to develop offensive moves while staying out of foul trouble.

Jacob Toppin

Age: 24

Position: F

Height/Weight: 6-8/200

Re-signed on a two-way contract and probably headed to the G-League. Toppin starred for the Westchester Knicks last season but only made nine appearances for the senior squad. He missed most of Summer League after suffering a hip injury.

Karl-Anthony Towns

Position: C

Height/Weight: 7-0/248

Karl-Anthony Towns comes to the Knicks with a lot of talent and question marks. AP

Arrives with the best credentials for a Knicks center since Patrick Ewing but also question marks surrounding his durability (missed at least 20 games in four of the past five seasons), rim protection and offensive rebounding. Training camp/preseason will be an early indication into whether Towns is buying what Thibodeau is selling.
