Brian Daboll gets heated as Giants-Lions practice boils over
Observations from the Giants’ training camp practice on Monday.
Good Dimes
Daniel Jones connected on intermediate-to-deep shots to Jalin Hyatt, Darius Slayton, Theo Johnson and almost another to Malik Nabers near the front pylon that was ruled out of bounds but might be worth a replay review.
On the other field, Bobby Okereke intercepted Jared Goff in a 7-on-7 drill.
Secondary schooled
The starting secondary allowed three big-play touchdowns in three different drills: A miscommunication left Daurice Fountain wide open on the second play of 7-on-7s, Jameson Williams taunted Cor’Dale Flott after walking into the end zone on a cross-field route in 11-on-11s and Williams snuck between Deonte Banks and Dane Belton for a first-play touchdown in the red-zone period.
Caught my eye
Fiery Brian Daboll made his (justified) return after a mostly cool-headed training camp.
The Giants head coach exploded on a Lions defensive lineman who swiped at Jones’ hand just as he released a pass.
Contact with the quarterback is a universal no-no in training camp, even in joint practices.
One play later, a fight broke out and Jones was in the thick of it.
Injury Report
WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton (knee) and DT D.J. Davidson (lower leg) returned to practice.
C John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), TE Lawrence Cager (hamstring) and TE Jack Stoll (concussion) did not practice.
For the Lions, TE Sam LaPorta did not practice and CB Terrion Arnold left early with a trainer after a helmet-to-helmet hit with LT Andrew Thomas.
