Bronx training program offers stipends, certifications, and health care jobs

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – A 10-week program in the Bronx offers New Yorkers a chance to train in health care while earning a stipend, according to Jobs NYC.

Phipps Neighborhoods Career Network offers career development for young adults to help secure health care-related employment while setting participants up for other training opportunities at Hostos Community College.

“Phipps Neighborhoods works with Hostos Community College and Montefiore Medical Center to train and hire community members through our 10-week workforce development program’” read a post on NYC Jobs about the program. “The program includes three weeks of in-class learning and six weeks of internship. After completing this free program, you’ll be offered interviews and opportunities for jobs as well as professional certifications.”

Participants can look for placement in the health care industry or choose to further their training as Certified Medical assistants, Medical Administrative Assistants, or Patient Care Techs.

In addition to health care training, New Yorkers enrolled in the program can earn up to $750 in stipends while becoming CPR and first aid certified and acquiring job readiness in health care.

Eligibility requirements:

  • be 18 – 30

  • have an interest in health care

  • possess a high school diploma or high school equivalency

  • be able to pass a drug test by the start of the internship

  • be able to pass a background check by the start of the internship

  • be fully vaccinated

  • be available Monday – Friday, 9 am – 4 pm

Phipps Neighborhoods also offers a Summer Youth Employment Program and a mentoring program. More information can be found here.
