Buffalo Bills at New York Jets: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 6 game

play

After a strong start to the season, the Buffalo Bills cooled off mightily in Weeks 4 and 5, giving them a 3-2 record heading into a divisional matchup against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. While a 3-2 record is still good enough to lead the AFC East after five weeks, the Bills need to figure out what’s been wrong with their offense if they want any chance of winning a Super Bowl.

The absence of Khalil Shakir really hindered the Bills’ passing attack in Week 5. It was evident Mack Hollins, Keon Coleman, and Curtis Samuel are not enough to help Josh Allen win against other top contenders. If Shakir is still unavailable in Week 6, especially against a secondary as talented as the Jets, the Bills could be in a lot of trouble.

The Jets, meanwhile, will be playing their first game without former head coach Robert Saleh. Saleh was fired from the team on Tuesday, and his replacement will have a very tough first test. Aaron Rodgers has not looked like the MVP candidate from three years ago, and his connection with star receiver Garrett Wilson had been invisible until last week against Minnesota. Despite that though, the Jets have still shot out to a respectable 2-3 record. Can they move to .500 this week?

Here are our experts’ predictions for this Monday Night showdown.

Lorenzo Reyes: Jets 19, Bills 17

Sometimes, teams get a boost after firing their head coach midseason. Getting rid of Robert Sales won’t solve the Jets’ cultural issues, but it will be an interesting test case against a Bills team that has serious depth concerns on offense, an issue that plays right into New York’s hands, with its excellent defense

Tyler Dragon: Bills 28, Jets 24

Was Robert Saleh the scapegoat for all the Jets’ deficiencies? Saleh’s firing seemed like a panic move this early on. We’ll see if interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich can help turn around the Jets. But 40-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers hasn’t played will this season. The Bills have lost two in a row after starting 3-0, but they’ll get back on track this week.

Jordan Mendoza: Bills 20, Jets 17

Does the firing of Robert Saleh inspire the Jets to victory? Possibly, but the Bills offense is easier to back and get revenge from last season’s season opener.
