Cam Ward to Giants in NFL Draft? Sure, just don’t expect to see him in New York

If Cam Ward ends up going to a New York team in the 2025 NFL Draft, don’t expect to see much of him at nightclubs. Or anywhere in the city, apparently.
The Miami quarterback was asked before Saturday night’s Heisman Trophy ceremony what he thought about possibly playing for the Giants, who are surprisingly in the market for a new franchise QB. The team signed Daniel Jones to a four-year extension worth $160 million in 2023, but they’ve since abandoned those plans, releasing him in November. At 2-11, the Giants are tied with the Las Vegas Raiders in the race for the No. 1 overall draft pick.
Ward didn’t seem put off by the idea of the Giants taking him: “I mean, if (Giants GM Joe Schoen) wants to come get me, he knows best,” the Davey O’Brien winner said to laughs by the media on hand for the Heisman presentation.
However, he went on to say the bright lights of New York City might not necessarily be his thing. “The city of New York, I won’t be in the city probably ever,” Ward said. “I’ll stay in New Jersey for all day, every day, it’s too much out here, so I just be vibing and trying to make some football plays for the Giants.”
Good news for Ward: The Giants do play in East Rutherford, New Jersey, so he doesn’t technically have to ever cross the Hudson River into the Big Apple. And Hoboken and Jersey City are great places to live: Rent in the city is through the roof, anyway.
But Giants fans might feel nervous about someone seemingly shying away from being in the New York City spotlight. It might seem strange for someone coming from Miami, but remember, he started his college football journey as a 0-star recruit at Incarnate Word before spending two seasons at Washington State (Pullman isn’t exactly the most glamorous of college towns). Plus, the U is actually in Coral Gables, and the Hurricanes play in Miami Gardens, about a half-hour north of Miami proper.
Hey, if the Giants pass on him, he could always go to the Jets, right behind the Giants in the draft race at 3-10.
