Be ready to raise your glasses as Carmelo Anthony plans on making it big. Interestingly, this vision involves making a fortune from these raised glasses itself. But it’s nothing that the Denver Nuggets star intends to take from the fans’ pockets under any false pretext. If anything, the plan is for Melo to take advantage of the growing wine industry. Something that he revealed will be around a $500 billion dollar industry in a few years’ span.

All that the former NBA star desires is to get a fraction of this to-be humongous industry. “I just want a one percent, half a percent of the industry,” he said at a recent Wine and Spirits Festival. Easier said than done, as even one percent of this industry at the future potential amounts to $5 billion. Notably, the 10x All-Star has been associated with wine from his time in the Denver Nuggets itself.

From an enthusiastic consumer and collector to getting involved in the production itself, Carmelo Anthony has covered a journey of sorts. So, it’s clear he has a vision he needs to achieve this projected $5 billion goal. Speaking on the same, the ex-Nuggets star detailed the part of the plan of action.

“What we try to do is, we try to be authentic. We try to give you big… We try to give you great product, we try to give you a great brand. And we try to give you great content. And when we actually able to tell the whole story, then that’s where things will start to turn around for us,” he said during the fest.

 

It’s good that the 10x All-Star has a vision to follow, as he isn’t the only player in the game. In fact, he has multiple competitors from his community, NBA, itself. Backed by his 300-acre co-owned vineyard, CJ McCollum’s McCollum Heritage 91 and Melo’s close friend Dwyane Wade’s Wade Cellars are just two of some names that Melo’s VII(N) The Seventh Estate will inevitably be competing against.

Not many would know that the 10x All-Star was among the first NBA stars whom the wine bug bit. In fact, his love for the drink goes back to the time when wine was not even as fashionable a drink in the NBA as it is now. It’s even said that it was the ex-Nuggets star who passed on this love for the drink to his friends. You guessed it right if the names that struck you were other members of the Banana Boat Crew. Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Paul.

But, how did Melo go from an enthusiastic consumer and collector to the owner of his brand? An interview with Bon Appétit brought the answer to the question that some curious fans may have had. During the interview, Carmelo Anthony revealed by the time he started collecting wines, he was heavy on Napa and California wines.

Soon, he got hit by the realization that he was spending significant money on all of this. “So I thought ‘I might as well put this money into my own thing,’” he recalled. And once he grasped an understanding of what he was getting into, Melo co-founded VII(N) The Seventh Estate with Asani Swann in 2022. A brand that now aims to enter the billion-dollar club in a span of a few years.
