City Explores Building Truck Delivery Hubs In Greenpoint, Clinton Hill

BROOKLYN, NY — The New York City Department of Transportation is looking to build two truck delivery hubs in Greenpoint and in Clinton Hill, city officials said on Tuesday.

These hubs are part of a proposal for a pilot program that, if approved, would create dedicated street-side hubs for truck drivers to offload deliveries onto smaller, more street-friendly modes of transportation like e-bikes, small vans and handcarts, DOT officials said.

Two of these spaces would be in Brooklyn, transportation officials told Patch.

One would be located in Clinton Hill, under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Washington Avenue and Hall Street.

The other would be in Greenpoint, under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on Meeker Avenue between Sutton Street and Kingsland Avenue.

“Microhubs will offer a more sustainable and efficient way to make deliveries and reduce the number of big delivery trucks on our streets,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez.

The on-street hubs would be capped at 100 feet in length, while the off-street hubs would sit on city-owned property and vary in size depending on the location, and could include space for more vehicles, storage and truck maintenance, DOT officials said.

The delivery hub pilot will last three years and will begin with up to 20 locations. Other locations are still being finalized, a spokesperson from the NYC DOT said.

“These microhubs will make our streets greener and safer for all New Yorkers and we are excited to launch the first locations in Greenpoint, Clinton Hill, and the Upper West Side,” Rodriguez said.

Transportation officials said there would be a public hearing about the pilot program on Oct. 17 at 10 a.m.
