Clean energy jobs surge in New York, driven by renewable investments
New York State is witnessing
a surge in clean energy jobs, fuelled by significant investments in renewable
energy and billions in federal funding from the Inflation Reduction Act.
These initiatives are not only paving the way for a sustainable future
but also creating lucrative and long-term career opportunities across the
state.
From 2020 to 2022, clean energy jobs in New York grew by 8.4%, outpacing
overall employment growth. This trend is expected to continue as more workers
are needed to support the state’s transition to a clean energy economy.
Key sectors driving this growth include wind energy, which has seen a nearly
52% increase in jobs from 2016 to 2022.
New York’s first offshore
wind farm began operation in December 2023, with more projects in development.
Job opportunities are available across the wind energy supply chain, from
entry-level roles like wind turbine technician to specialised positions
such as wind electrical engineer.
With opportunities to enter the field through vocational training or apprenticeships,
New York’s clean energy sector offers a promising future for workers seeking
to make a positive impact on the planet.
