Colts tried to trade up with Giants for No. 6 pick in NFL Draft, per insider | Sporting News

While we know how the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft turned out for the Indianapolis Colts, we may get a bit more insight into the process.

Even though they wound up staying put at No. 15 to select edge rusher Laiatu Latu, it seems general manager Chris Ballard may have been looking to move up.

Specifically, the Colts were reportedly among the teams trying to trade up with the New York Giants for the No. 6 pick in the draft, according to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com.

It seems fans will get an in-depth look at those trade calls during the “Hard Knocks” finale on Tuesday night. How extensive those talks between the Colts and Giants were remains to be seen.

It would have taken a massive haul for the Colts to move up to No. 6, and it likely would have been for one of the top receivers on the board in Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze.

The Colts also had their eyes on tight end Brock Bowers before he went to the Las Vegas Raiders.

They wound up grabbing Latu, the first defender in the draft and the highest-graded defender on their big board, so the Colts are still very much pleased with how the first round turned out.

Either way, it will be interesting to see a bit more insight into how these trade talks pan out on the biggest night of the offseason.
