Commanders fantasy football starts and sits for Week 9 at the NY Giants

The New York Giants are a decent match-up across the board for most positions in fantasy football. This Washington Commanders team is a lot different than they were in Week 2 of the season when they last faced their NFC East rivals. It’s another good chance to build on a sensational 6-2 start to the campaign.

Because of that, the Commanders should have an even better game this go around, especially on the offensive side of the ball. However, taking the Giants lightly is not an option considering their woeful record at MetLife Stadium in recent years.

There are a lot of great match-ups, so let’s take a look at which Commanders players you should start or sit from a fantasy football standpoint in Week 9.

Starts

Jayden Daniels

Even with a rib injury against a good defense, Jayden Daniels was able to log a good fantasy performance in Week 8. The Hail Mary miracle certainly helped him out, but it was a good fantasy performance nonetheless.

The Giants are giving up the 11th most fantasy points to the quarterback position this season, which spells good news for Daniels’ success. Now that he is one more week removed from the rib issue, it shouldn’t bother him much and the accuracy issues he suffered from last week should go away.

Start Daniels as a top-three quarterback option this week.

Brian Robinson Jr.

Brian Robinson Jr. had a career-best 133 rushing yards against the Giants in Week 2. He could very well have a similar game this week depending on his hamstring complication.

The Giants are allowing the 17th most fantasy points to running backs, so more middle of the pack. That shouldn’t be a problem for Robinson, especially if he can find the end zone this week, which he has done in five out of the seven games he has played this season.

The Commanders will probably look to pound the ball in the run game if they get up to a lead early. Start Robinson as a high-end RB2 this week.

Terry McLaurin

Terry McLaurin did not have the best fantasy day in Week 2 against the Giants, but that was more so because Daniels had not been unleashed yet. Since that contest, he is WR3 on the season, averaging 18 points per game.

The Giants are allowing the 16th most fantasy points to the wide receiver position. Start McLaurin as a WR1 this week, and he is an every-week must-start at this point.

Austin Seibert

Austin Seibert is far and away the overall K1 on the season, averaging 1.3 points per game more than the K2 on the season, Chris Boswell.

Seibert should be in your lineup every week.

Commanders defense

This might be the first week you can confidently play the Commanders defense. They might even be good. It has gotten better every week and performed well versus the Chicago Bears in Week 8.

Due to that, you can play the Commanders defense in good match-ups. The Giants offense is currently giving up the third most points to opposing fantasy defense.

Start the Commanders defense off waiver wires this week.

Sits

Austin Ekeler

It has been a couple of weeks since Austin Ekeler logged a good fantasy performance. Unfortunately, that may continue at the Giants.

We should expect the Commanders to maintain the lead against the Giants. Due to that, Robinson will likely get the majority of the work if healthy enough. There is still a chance for Ekeler to turn some touches into a solid fantasy game, but it’s not likely since he is the primary receiving back.

Keep Ekeler on your benches this week unless you are desparate for a flex play.

Zach Ertz

The Giants are currently the third-best team against fantasy tight ends this season. Zach Ertz does not generate enough targets to be comfortable starting him this week against a defense that only allows 7.8 points per game to the position.

It would be best to find another streaming option this week.

Other Commanders receivers

The cycle continues of not knowing which Commanders’ wide receivers other than McLaurin to start. It was Noah Brown last week with a superb fantasy day, as he was the receiver who caught the Hail Mary ball from Daniels.

Keep all other Commanders wide receiver options on benches this week.
