Recent reports stirred curiosity in the basketball community, particularly regarding Donte DiVincenzo’s time with the New York Knicks. They noted that DiVincenzo was unhappy with the Knicks. In particular, Ian Begley of SNY stated, “I can say confidently that DiVincenzo didn’t exactly love the idea of playing fewer minutes/a reduced role this season. He was coming off of a career year and helped the team win a ton of games when it was shorthanded”.  However, this point is now being refuted.

Stefan Bondy of the New York Post said: “A league source refuted reports that Donte DiVincenzo was unhappy with the idea of coming off the bench next season and wanted to leave the Knicks. Source says he was ‘pumped’ about next season and playing with Mikal Bridges.” This perspective suggests that despite initial concerns, DiVincenzo is looking forward to the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Josh Hart reflected on these challenges in the Knicks media day. He remarked, “I think for him, it’s probably pretty difficult and frustrating He came here. Whatever losing record, whatever struggle, he helped turn it around.” Hart’s words highlight DiVincenzo’s resilience and impact during tough times, showcasing the appreciation the team has for his contributions.

He emphasized how The Big Ragu plays “You guys know he plays with extreme passion and competitiveness,” which resonates with fans who value hard work and dedication. Hart hopes that when DiVincenzo and Bridges return, “I hope when they come here, I hope and know that the Garden is going to show both of those guys love for the sacrifices they made in a Knicks jersey,” underscoring the strong connection between players and fans.

Some are calling Donte DiVincenzo’s departure from the Knicks an “underrated loss”. It highlights how his contributions and competitive spirit were crucial to the team, despite going unnoticed. His absence will be felt as the Knicks move forward.

“Underrated loss”: Austin Rivers on Donte DiVincenzo’s Departure from Knicks.

Former NBA player Austin Rivers, joined ‘The Bill Simmons Podcast’ to share his thoughts regarding the implications the trade can have on the Knicks. He said, “DiVincenzo is a very underrated loss. I don’t think people understand the shooting he provided the Knicks.” He further emphasized ,” No one in that team can shoot the ball like DiVincenzo.  Especially after last year where he was shooting it not only how he shoots.”. 

He isn’t wrong though! The Big Ragu was a crucial player for the Knicks. In Game 2 against the 76ers in the Eastern Conference First Round, his stepping up in the crucial moments was vital. He contributed significantly to the Knicks’ narrow victory, finishing with a +11 plus-minus. This hustle helped the Knicks maintain their lead in the series, bringing them to a 2-0 advantage.

According to ESPN, in this match he recorded 19 points, shooting 5-of-10 from the field. Moreover, he shot 4-of-8 from three-point range and hit all 5 of his free throws. His ability to energize the squad and make crucial plays during tough stretches made him a fan favorite. This makes what Rivers said right, “He is a catch-and-shoot quick shot”. 

The Knicks now will have to contend with the void left by DiVincenzo and move forward. How will they honor his contributions while building new chemistry? Can the team maintain the spirit of teamwork that defined their success last season?
