Daniel Jones facing race to be healthy for NFL season after ACL tear
NEW York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is moving closer to a return to the field following his season-ending ACL tear last year.
Jones took part in the Giants’ first OTA practice of the spring on Monday, according to the NFL team’s official website.
Jones participated in 7-on-7 drills, completing passes to receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and Malik Nabers, according to Dan Salomone from the Giants’ website.
The 26-year-old is still on course with his target to be fully cleared by the start of training camp in late July.
Soon after that, the Giants will play their preseason games ahead of the 2024 season.
Their opening game of the new season is against the Minnesota Vikings on September 9th.
Jones suffered his ACL injury in Week 9 of last season.
He picked up the injury during November’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jones told reporters last month he was “making good progress” in his race to be ready for the new season.
“The plan is to be ready to go by training camp,” he said.

“That’s when I’m shooting for and feel good about being ready.”
Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Giants last year.
And despite Jones not hitting the levels really needed by the Giants, it appears he will be the starting quarterback again come November.
Speaking after last month’s NFL Draft, general manager Joe Schoen suggested that was still the vase.
“Yeah, for me, I said it in January after the season,” Schoen said.
“Expectation was Daniel would be our starter and we brought Drew Lock in to be his backup and Tommy [DeVito] has been the backup.

Following their home meeting with the Vikings, the Giants will go to the Washington Commanders and then the Cleveland Browns.
Their final game of September is at home to the Dallas Cowboys.
