Daniel Jones haters won’t like where Giants QB ranks in key area | Sporting News

There are plenty of adjectives to describe New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. It appears “clutch” is one of those adjectives.

You read that correctly, Daniel Jones detractors.

According to Douglas Clawson of CBS Sports, Jones was ranked as the eighth-most clutch quarterback in the NFL, above signal-callers like Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson.

“Hear me out before you pound your fist on the table and yell “Daniel Jones is eighth on this list?!?!?” He had very few clutch opportunities through three seasons but he’s been steady lately. He successfully led the Giants down the field to tie or take the lead on 11 of 25 opportunities (44 percent) in the last two years, a top-10 rate in the NFL,” Clawson wrote.

Jones has been the punchline of jokes for the majority of his career since entering the NFL as the No. 6 pick in 2019, but it seems he deserves more respect.

Clawson went on to provide more proof, such as Jones’ ability to protect the football late in games.

“His five turnovers in the fourth-quarter and OT in the last two years is the same number as Joe Burrow. He also led a game-winning drive on the road in the postseason against the Vikings in 2022,” Clawson wrote.

Now, if only Jones could figure out how to protect the football during the first three quarters of the game as well. Then, the Giants offense would really be cooking.

This is a vital year for Jones considering the Giants will have an out in his contract after the 2024 season.

Coming through in the clutch is one way to ease concerns about his stability.
