Dates and times announced for Detroit Lions’ three preseason games

Allen Park — The Detroit Lions have announced the dates and times for the team’s three preseason games.

The 2024 exhibition slate will open with a road game against the New York Giants on Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. Prior to that contest, the two teams are expected to conduct a pair of joint practices. It will mark the second consecutive year the Lions and Giants have practiced together, with last year’s sessions happening at the Lions’ facility in Allen Park.

The Lions will remain on the road the following week for a matchup against the defending champion Chiefs in Kansas City. That game will take place on Aug. 17 at 4 p.m.

And Detroit will close out the preseason at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 24 at 1 p.m., leading into the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football on Sept. 8.

While the Lions’ top starters will likely see minimal playing time during the preseason games, there will still be reasons to tune in. As always, it will be the first chance to see the team’s rookie class in action. This year should also offer an inaugural look at backup quarterback Hendon Hooker, a 2023 draft pick who was recovering from a torn ACL last offseason.
