Deion Sanders hints at inside Giants info as he guarantees Shedeur goes No. 1 in NFL Draft
Deion Sanders can envision Shedeur Sanders in blue.
The Colorado football coach outlined how his quarterback son, a possible No. 1 pick, could land with the Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft during a recent discussion with former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones.
When Jones mentioned the Giants hold the No. 1 pick right now — the Raiders returned to that slot Monday after a loss to the Falcons, per Tankathon — Deion hinted that he had some inside information.
“Giants are not going to give up that pick. They’re not going to give up that pick,” he said. “The Giants are not giving up that pick. I know that for a fact.”
Jones followed up by asking if the Giants have the No. 1 pick who will be drafted first.
“Shedeur is going to be the No. 1 pick,” Deion said.
Jones again asked about which player would be the No. 1 pick if the Giants are on the clock.
“Shedeur is going to be the No. 1 pick,” Deion said.
While Deion’s answers make it easy to focus on how he repeatedly said his son will be the No. 1 pick and didn’t explicitly say he would be the next Giants quarterback, his comment about knowing the Giants won’t trade their top pick leaves little wiggle room for interpretation.
If not for that caveat, one could assume Deion is leaving the door open for the Giants to trade away that pick to allow another team to draft his son.
Instead, Deion seemed OK — based on this interview — with the idea that his son could land in the New York market.
It’s possible Deion has an idea of the Giants’ general plans since general manager Joe Schoen and his lieutenants visited Boulder earlier this year, surely to scout Shedeur and Heisman winner Travis Hunter Jr.
These comments also come on the heels of Shedeur and Giants star rookie receiver Malik Nabers playing catch in the streets on Friday night before the Heisman ceremony in Manhattan.
However, don’t go pre-buying Shedeur’s Giants jersey already.
When Jones mentioned the Raiders having to “slide” up to get the No. 1 pick, Deion quickly responded: “Do they have to slide?” before flashing a coy smile and chuckling.
In February, Deion implored Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce to draft Shedeur and brother Shilo, a safety who is not considered a first-round pick.
Jones did ask Deion which player would go second to the Raiders should Shedeur land with the Giants, and the coach essentially said it would depend if a team wanted a quarterback — he mentioned Miami’s Cam Ward — or go with perhaps the best all-around player in Hunter, the two-way phenom who plays receiver and cornerback.
The 2025 NFL Draft will get underway in Green Bay on April 24.
