DeSimone Consulting Engineering Named Among Crain’s NY Business 2024 Best Places To Work

DeSimone Consulting Engineering has announced it has earned a spot on Crain’s NY Business magazine’s 2024 list of Best Places to Work in New York City, making its first appearance on the list.

Founded by Vincent J. DeSimone in 1969, DeSimone Consulting Engineering has grown from a single New York office into a global leader in structural engineering, façade design consulting, integrated steel design and detailing, and construction consulting services across a broad range of building types.

DeSimone’s New York office, led by Chairman and CEO Stephen V. DeSimone, has contributed engineering expertise to some of the city’s most prominent and ground-breaking developments while building a culture of collaboration and support among employees.

Most recently, the company has been at the forefront of office-to-residential conversions, completing the structural design of the transformation of landmarked One Wall Street and the Mandarin Oriental Residences Fifth Avenue, both in Manhattan. DeSimone also engineered the complex reimagining of the landmarked Terminal Warehouse into a 1.2-million-square-foot, office/mixed-use complex. The firm is currently part of a team revitalizing the iconic One Times Square, site of the annual New Year’s ball drop, adding a dramatic, cantilevered observation deck and new curtain wall.

Crain’s partnered with Workforce Research Group to conduct anonymous surveys of thousands of employees at New York City-based companies to select the best places to work. The awards program is designed to identify, recognize, and honor the 70 best companies to work for in the NYC metropolitan area. Highlighting strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to improve, the survey looks to employees for evaluation of their employer’s workplace policies, practices, and demographics, as well as its culture and work-life balance.

“It is a tremendous honor to have our employees acknowledge the company’s efforts to create a positive work environment,” said Stephen DeSimone. “We will continue to look for ways to support our team, proactively encourage skill development and career advancement, and foster a work culture that engages with, mentors, and inspires every staff member in the DeSimone organization.”

As is true for all DeSimone’s offices, the New York office supports and empowers its employees through a variety of initiatives. The company hosts regular town hall meetings to promote an open-dialogue work environment, in-house monthly seminars, tuition reimbursement and continuing education programs that help employees extend their skill set and expertise, and standard benefits that include wellness programs and a hybrid work schedule.

“We take great pride in our firm and are committed to thoughtfully and strategically pursuing further growth that offers opportunities for advancement, skill development, and highly successful project teams,” DeSimone added. “Ultimately, this recognition underscores our unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional engineering solutions to our clients for over 50 years, and how the quality and excellence we offer is rooted in how we support and set up our teammates for success each and every day.”

With this latest honor from Crain’s, DeSimone has established a consistent track record ranking among the nation’s best employers. So far this year, DeSimone has earned top workplace awards from USA Today, amNYmetro, and the South Florida Sun Sentinel. DeSimone was also named Architecture & Engineering MVP at Deltek ProjectCon 2023 for effectively leveraging technology to improve efficiencies and integrate new offices and personnel as it continues its global growth.

The firm continues to expand its size and the scope of work it completes. Over the past four years, Desimone has acquired six businesses, adding offices in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and South America. During this period, the DeSimone team has grown from some 250 to over 650.

DeSimone’s recently completed projects include: the award-winning Olympia DUMBO tower with Hill West Architects and the Statue of Liberty Museum with FX Collaborative, both in New York City; the award-winning Aston Martin Residences with architect Bodas Mian Anger (BMA) and the famed One Thousand Museum residential tower in partnership with Zaha Hadid Architects, both in Miami; and the highly sustainable Winthrop Center in Boston, which includes the largest Passive House office component in the world.
