Did the Boston Celtics embarrass the New York Knicks?

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Boston Celtics destroyed the New York Knicks to get their season off to a blisteringly hot start. New York struggled to contain the Celtics pick-and-roll offense and showed very little creativity in the half-court, leading to multiple stagnant possessions, much to the delight of the Celtics fans in attendance.

The Knicks are seen as a legitimate threat to Boston this season. During the offseason, they added Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns, building on their mid-season swing to bring OG Anunoby to the Big Apple in December 2023. However, based on their opening showing, there’s a lot of work to be done before the Knicks can be seen as a championship contender.

During a recent episode of ‘The Big 3’ podcast, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe declared that New York should be embarrassed of their performance. He cited the moves the front office has made and the goals the franchise is currently aiming for.
