Does Karl-Anthony Towns make the New York Knicks the biggest threat to the Boston Celtics?

Does Karl-Anthony Towns make the New York Knicks the biggest threat to the Boston Celtics in the NBA’s Eastern Conference this season? There was quite a bit of initial excitement about the deal for the Knicks, who may well now be the clear and only team behind Boston in the order of the East in the season ahead. But did it also bring potentially fatal weaknesses and lack of depth for the 2025 NBA Playoffs?

Only time can tell for certain how the deal will end up playing out. But there are cases to be made that this trade both raised New York’s ceiling and lowered the Knicks floor.
