Ella Emhoff made the case for knitwear coordinates on Wednesday while attending Proenza Schouler’s spring 2025 show during New York Fashion Week.
Emhoff, stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, wore the American label head-to-toe, selecting a cropped v-neck sweater vest and foldover maxiskirt. She added on a pair of loafers featuring gold hardware — also by Proenza — as well as one of the brand’s Puffy handbags in a pale blue shade. A pair of ovular frames topped off her look.
Emhoff is a knitwear pro in her own right: the artist makes her own crocheted canvas “paintings.” She even has a degree in textiles from the Parsons School of Design, which she graduated from in 2021.
Harris’ stepdaughter has also become a fashion fixture. Following the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021, Emhoff signed her first modeling contract with IMG. She’s since walked the runway for labels including Prabal Gurung, Collina Strada and Balenciaga, and in 2022, she fronted Mulberry’s Softie handbag campaign.
In August, Emhoff made headlines for her Democratic National Convention wardrobe. The model and artist wore a plaid Thom Browne suit, an all-white Helmut Lang ensemble and a custom Joe Ando dress to celebrate her stepmother’s nomination as the Democratic candidate for president. At the convention, Emhoff also sported the viral Harris Walz camo print hat, which is currently sold out.
“They sold 25,000 hats in a few hours,” Mitch Cahn, president and founder of Unionwear, told WWD last month. “We were completely surprised by it. We’ve been in business for 32 years. We never had an instance where we made a sample in the morning and then they had sold a million dollars’ worth of hats by the next morning.”
Emhoff isn’t the only star who favored matching knitwear this week: on Saturday, Angelina Jolie attended the Telluride Film Festival in a beige Brunello Cucinelli set consisting of a plunging maxidress and shawl.
