Ex-Bears standout offensive weapon available after failing to make Giants | Sporting News

There surely will be some intriguing players available on the open market after roster cuts are finished on Tuesday.

National Football League franchises need to trim rosters down to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon and that means that hundreds of players will hit free agency looking for new opportunities.

The Chicago Bears are deep into their own cuts and already have made some tough decisions, including who will be the backup quarterback behind Caleb Willians in 2024.

One former member of the Bears was attempting to land a spot on the New York Giants’ 53-man roster but failed to do so and now is available. Former Bears standout receiver Allen Robinson reportedly now is available after being released on Tuesday afternoon, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“The Giants released veteran WR Allen Robinson, per source,” Pelissero said.

Robinson spent four seasons in Chicago and was a major player in the team’s offense. He had back-to-back seasons with over 1,100 receiving yards in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, he racked up 1,147 receiving yards on 98 receptions to go along with six touchdowns. He followed it up with an even better 2020 campaign where he had 1,250 receiving yards on 102 catches and six touchdowns.

Robinson now is 31 years old so it wouldn’t be too shocking to see him find an opportunity elsewhere in the coming days.
