Ex-Knicks point guard alleges former teammate robbed him several times

Well, the envelope is out of the bag now.

A one-time Knicks point guard has been dropping a bombshell claim in recent months, alleging that a teammate swiped an envelope full of cash out of his backpack while the two were with New York. Former 14-year NBA veteran Mike Bibby declared that he was robbed “three or four times” during his lone season with the Knicks in 2011-12.

Bibby told Knicks Fan TV that he often traveled with an envelope full of cash to gamble on the team plane. It became obvious to him – after multiple alleged thefts – that someone had been meddling with his belongings.

It turns out that it was one of his brothers in orange and blue.

Bibby alleges that the teammate, whom he declined to identify, went as far as going to a hotel front desk to claim a key to Bibby’s room, knowing it would be unoccupied at the time. The purported perpetrator was caught on hotel security footage, according to Bibby, who said his envelope turned up in the teammate’s bathroom upon inspection.

Bibby noted that then-head coach Mike Woodson and general manager Glen Grunwald, along with the alleged thief, met with him to return the money. He said the teammate claimed it was only a “joke”, which Bibby adamantly denied being the case.

The longtime Sacramento Kings point guard wouldn’t give up any names, though he did narrow the short list of teammates. When prompted, he denied that it was Bill Walker, who he called a “buddy”.

It couldn’t have been JR Smith either, since Bibby said his former teammate offered to “whoop” the thief.

So, who was it? Your guess is as good as ours, but here’s the entire Knicks roster that season so you can speculate further..

2011-12 New York Knicks roster: Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire, Renaldo Balkman, Mike Bibby, Tyson Chandler, Baron Davis, Toney Douglas, Landry Fields, Dan Gadzuric, Josh Harrellson, Jared Jeffries, Jerome Jordan, Jeremy Lin, Steve Novak, Iman Shumpert, JR Smith, Bill Walker.
