Exclusive | John McEnroe opens tennis center at Baha Mar Resort, hosts starry tournament and rocks out with band
Tennis legend John McEnroe opened an eponymous tennis center at Baha Mar Resort in Nassau, his first in the Caribbean.
The opening of the newest John McEnroe Tennis Academy in the Bahamas also kicked off the fifth annual Baha Mar Cup, a fund-raising tournament to benefit the Baha Mar Resort Foundation and Mark Knowles Children’s Initiative.
Also at the resort for the event with McEnroe were tennis greats including Boris Becker, Victoria Azarenka, Milos Raonic, Donna Vekic, Taylor Townsend, Genie Bouchard and Andy Roddick — who did his podcast live from the island paradise.
Famed Red Rooster chef Marcus Samuelsson hosted a celebration at his Marcus Fish + Chop House.
And McEnroe later jumped onstage with his rock act — the Johnny Smyth Band — at the resort’s new 350-seat Jazz Bar.
Stars previously spotted at Baha Mar include Sting, Conor McGregor, Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Rob Gronkowski.
McEnroe also regularly hangs with Hollywood stars.
We reported earlier this year that McEnroe attended the Vanity Fair Oscar party — and was palling around with “Wicked” star Jeff Goldblum.
Last year, the winner of seven Grand Slam singles titles collaborated with “Sicko Mode” rapper Travis Scott on a new Mac Attack sneaker for Nike.
McEnroe even spent hours with Scott, who showed up to their meeting with a handcuffed briefcase and a custom Nike tracksuit at the time.
