F.A.A. bans drone flights over certain parts of New York
NEW YORK — After restricting airspace in parts of New Jersey due to growing concerns of drone sightings over the state, the F.A.A. is issuing similar bans in New York.
The ban of drone flights includes areas in Brooklyn, Queens, and two Long Island communities.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul says the restrictions are over the state’s “critical infrastructure sites.”
“[U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas] …has coordinated with federal partners and the F.A.A. plans to grant temporary flight restrictions over some of New York’s critical infrastructure sites — this action is purely precautionary; there are no threat to these sites.” – excerpt from Governor Hochul Statement
The restrictions will remain in effect through January 18.
The federal government sent state of the art drone detection systems to New York earlier this week.
F.A.A. officials warn drone pilots who are caught to be in violation of the restrictions could be detained by law enforcement and face federal charges.
