Fans of struggling NFL team fly banner over stadium urging owner to ‘please fix this dumpster fire’

Disgruntled New York Giants fans flew a banner over MetLife Stadium pleading with owner John Mara to ‘fix this dumpster fire’ amid their latest shambolic season.

The Giants are on course to record one of the worst seasons in their history after amassing a 2-10 record heading into Sunday’s Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints.

And roughly 90 minutes before that fixture, which could see them slump to an eighth straight defeat, a huge banner directed at Mara could be seen flying above the stadium.

‘MR. MARA ENOUGH – PLZ FIX THIS DUMPSTER FIRE,’ the banner read.

Giants fans have not flown such an angry banner over the stadium since the 1978 season, when a message was seen during the third quarter of a game against the Arizona Cardinals reading: ’15 YEARS OF LOUSY FOOTBALL … WE’VE HAD ENOUGH.’

Team officials responded to that banner at the time by making wholesale changes, including the addition of George Young as general manager – who went on to dramatically transform their fortunes.

It remains to be seen whether Mara enforces a similar shake-up to his staff at the end of the season, though he is already set for a big change at quarterback next year.

Daniel Jones is no longer in New York after mutually agreeing to leave the Giants last month, which came after he lost his place as Brian Daboll’s starting quarterback amid a string of shambolic performances.

While previous backups Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock are still on the roster, the team will almost certainly use its top draft pick on a new rookie quarterback next year.

Along with the Carolina Panthers and the Las Vegas Raiders, the Giants are one of three strong contenders for the No. 1 draft pick in 2025.

When the team was 2-5, Mara insisted he was not planning to make any changes to his key staff anytime soon.

‘Obviously we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now,’ he said.

‘But I’m gonna say one thing, we are not making any changes this season and I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason either.’
