Fantasy Football: Potential bargains, must-plays from Giants-Browns game
The New York Giants (0-2) face off against the Cleveland Browns (1-1) on the road in Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season.
Fantasy football enthusiasts are not champing at the bit over the options in this game, but as always, there are plays to be had.
Here are five possibilities for your consideration.
Browns defense
The Browns’ defense allowed 33 points to Dallas at home in Week 1 but bounced back by holding Jacksonville to 13 last week. This week they face a Giants’ offense that continues to struggle to score points. They have just 24 points in their first two games. Only Carolina has fewer.
They are 12th in total defense, allowing 294.0 yards per game. They face a Giants’ offense that is ranked 24th in the NFL (272.0).
The Browns, behind future Hall of Fame defensive end Myles Garrett, are averaging 3.5 sacks per game. The Giants are allowing 3.0 sacks per game.
Browns RB Jerome Ford
Jerome Ford has not exactly been tearing it up in Nick Chubb‘s absence so far this season but he’s been respectable. Ford has averaged 13.2 FPS in DraftKings through two weeks and has not really been given a full workload yet.
That could change this week against the Giants, who have allowed 316 yards on the ground and have allowed the seventh-most FPS to running backs this year.
Giants defense
The over/under in this game is 38.5 points and the bettors are not afraid so far to take the UNDER.
The Giants don’t score much but the Browns’ offense has been quiet as well. They put up 17 abasing Dallas in Week 1 and 18 last week against Jacksonville and two of those points were due to a safety.
The Giants have a bend-but-don’t-break style of defense it will be hard for the Browns to score points as the Giants are fourth in the NFL in red zone defense.
Malik Nabers had been very impressive thus far this season averaging 21.7 FPS on DraftKings, which is fourth-best in the NFL. The Giants targeted Nabers 18 times in Week 2 and he will want to avenge his key fourth quarter drop that cost the Giants dearly last year.
The Browns have held wide receivers down pretty well in their first two games but if Nabers gets the volume he had last week, they won’t be able to shut him down completely.
Devin Singletary had a solid showing in Week 2 with 95 yards and a score, averaging nearly six yards a carry. The Giants have a 77 percent run block win rate so far this year, tied for third in the NFL.
The Browns have been staunch when it comes to allowing FPS to running backs thus far (10th) but there is some opportunity here as the Giants may want to establish the run early in this game.
