According to the New York Post, Evans died at his home in Texas on November 4.
However, no cause of death has been announced yet.
Evans was selected by the Giants in the 1971 NFL Draft and spent the first month of his professional career in a secondary squad.
His opportunity came when injuries mounted up for the Giants and he seized his chance, scoring five touchdowns over three games.

Evans (No. 31) scored five touchdowns over three games in his first season with the Giants
The best game of Evans’ career came in 1972 when he scored two rushing touchdowns and one receiving in a 45-21 thrashing of the New Orleans Saints.
But that season was curtailed early on when he broke his leg against the Denver Broncos.
Evans stayed with the Giants for the 1973 season before leaving for Washington in 1974, which proved to be the final season of his career.
‘The hardest thing to realize when you get out of the game is the fact that you don’t get any more freebies,’ he said in an interview with Newsday.
‘You don’t get any more checks picked up by people you never met because they know who you are. You don’t sign any autographs. Nobody wants you.’
According to his obituary, Evans’ body was donated to researchers looking into NFL concussion protocol.
