Former Penn State star, Pro Bowl WR released by New York Giants

A former Penn State standout is now looking for a new NFL home.

Allen Robinson, one of the most prolific wide receivers in Penn State history, was released by the New York Giants on Tuesday, according to a report from NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero.

Robinson, a 10-year NFL veteran, signed with the Giants in May. He did not make the team’s initial cuts as NFL franchises work toward establishing their 53-man roster.

Robinson ranks fourth all-time in receptions (177) and fifth in receiving yards (2,474) in Penn State history. His 97 catches and 1,432 yards in 2013 are still single-season program records. And his leaping catch in Penn State’s four-overtime win against Michigan remains iconic.

In 2014, Robinson was a second-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Robinson totaled 202 receptions, 2,848 yards and 22 touchdowns in Jacksonville, earning a 2015 Pro Bowl nod, before signing with the Chicago Bears in 2018. He played in Chicago for four seasons, recording 293 catches for 3,561 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Robinson signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, but a foot injury derailed his short stint on the west coast. In 2023, he was traded to Pittsburgh. He played in every game for the Steelers last season but was cut in March.

Robinson, given his past production and the need for veteran receivers, will likely find a new landing spot in the league. Only time will tell where that is.
