Game Recap: New Orleans Saints 14, New York Giants 11 | 2024 NFL Week 14
The victory improved the Saints to 5-8 and kept the team’s faint hopes of winning the NFC South alive. The loss was the eighth consecutive for the Giants who dropped to 2-11 and remain winless at MetLife. Tampa Bay leads the NFC South at 7-6 with Atlanta second at 6-7.
Linebacker Demario Davishelped preserve the win by intercepting New York quarterback Drew Lock with 1:40 to play but the Giants were able to force a three-and-out to get the ball for one more drive.
Carr was injured scram.bing for a first down as he jumped to make the first down but came down hard on his left wrist. He was taken to the locker room and replaced by Jake Haener.
The Saints scored on an 8-yard run by running back Kendre Miller and an 11-yard touchdown reception from Derek Carr to tight end Juwan Johnson. It was Miller’s first game since the Week loss vs. the Chargers. He finished with 32 yards on 10 carries. Running back Alvin Kamara had 44 yards on 17 carries and caught five passes for 35 yards. Carr was 20 of 31 for 219 yards. Johnson had four catches for 50 yards and receiver Marquez Valdez-Scantling had four catches for 51 yards.
Kamara has rushed for 938 yards this season, the most of his career.
Until the blocked field goal, Saints special teams had struggled Sunday as kicker Blake Grupe missed two field-goal attempts (one blocked) and the punt team gave up a punt return for a touchdown that was wiped out by a penalty on the Giants. The Saints also had a fake punt attempt that they didn’t convert.
The Saints, who improved to 2-4 in one-score games this season, will play host to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Caesars Superdome.
