“Get in your car”: Woody Johnson Presses Haason Reddick to End His Holdout and Return to the New York Jets | NFL News – Times of India

In a surprising turn of events amidst the chaos surrounding the New York Jets‘ head coaching change, team owner Woody Johnson has made a public appeal to disgruntled outside linebacker Haason Reddick to end his holdout and rejoin the team.

Jets Owner Woody Johnson Urges Haason Reddick to End Holdout and Rejoin Team for Upcoming Season

Jets owner Woody Johnson made it clear that he hopes to resolve the situation soon. In a Zoom call with reporters, Johnson appealed to Reddick, urging him to head to the team’s facility to resolve their differences.Johnson expressed a willingness to facilitate Reddick’s return, saying, “Haason, get in your car, drive down (I-)95 and come to the New York Jets, and we can meet you and give you an escort right in the building… you’ll feel welcome and you’re going to accomplish great things with us.”
While Johnson’s comments were casual, they highlighted the urgency of the situation amid the firing of head coach Robert Saleh. Despite this, Johnson remains optimistic that Reddick will eventually report, though the linebacker’s absence has extended into October.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in March, but negotiations regarding a new contract stalled. Reddick, now 30, is in the final year of a three-year, $45 million deal. The current stalemate is costing him significantly; each missed game results in a forfeited game check, totaling approximately $800,000. On top of that, his fines for missing training camp alone have surpassed $5 million, leaving the linebacker in a precarious financial situation.
For Johnson, this holdout is unprecedented. Having owned the team for 25 years, he admitted the situation had caught him off guard. During the same Zoom call, he shared his thoughts with ESPN’s Rich Cimini, remarking, “This is something I’ve never seen before, you know, and you’ve got even more years than I have.” Johnson’s uncertainty about how to navigate the ongoing dispute reflects the complexity of the matter.
The Jets, now led by interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, are set to face the Buffalo Bills next Monday. While Saleh’s firing dominated headlines, Reddick’s absence continues to loom over the organization. Johnson hopes that when Reddick does return, he will be met with a welcoming locker room ready for a fresh start. However, until that day comes, the Jets remain in limbo.
