Giants’ Daboll: Jones to remain QB1 despite blowout loss to Eagles
The New York Giants finished Sunday’s 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with Drew Lock at quarterback over Daniel Jones, but the team isn’t planning on making a QB1 change moving forward.
Head coach Brian Daboll announced postgame that Jones will remain the starter ahead of N.Y.’s Week 8 matchup versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Art Stapleton of USA Today.
Daboll added that he was looking for an offensive spark when he put Lock in the game early in the fourth quarter with the Giants trailing by 25 points. Lock completed 3 of 8 pass attempts for six yards in his brief appearance.
Jones was 14-for-21 passing with 99 yards and no touchdowns before leaving the matchup. He started New York’s first six contests this season, passing for six TDs to four interceptions while posting a 2-4 record.
Jones helped N.Y. make the playoffs during the 2022 campaign but missed most of the 2023 season due to a torn ACL.
Lock joined the Giants in the offseason but hadn’t attempted a pass with the team before Week 7.
