The New York Giants had a tough season, after losing to the Washington Commanders and making fans lick their wounds over a bitter defeat. The Giants dominated the Commander’s offense but walked out of the playing field on a defeated note; however, they did make history in the NFL.

Giants’ Historic Loss Leaves Fans Frustrated

The New York Giants are now standing at 0-2 after an embarrassing 21-18 loss at the hands of the Washington Commanders to another poor season opening for the NFL season.Though they offered a great competitive contest in the Sunday game, which came against the hard loss in the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, their efforts went in vain and this one created an unfortunate moment in NFL history.

In Week 1, the Giants’ offense was uninteresting. They did not score one touchdown, but on Week 2, the team finally got in rhythm. Daniel Jones made some contributions in terms of two touchdown passes, while the defense thwarted Washington from entering the end zone once despite all its operations. Still, still no win that would stake a claim to a unique and sore spot in NFL history. According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, New York was the first team to score three or more touchdowns without allowing any, and still end up losing the game in regulation.

This was a bizarre victory, for the Giants could not stop Washington’s kicker, Austin Seibert, from going 7 for 7. All of Washington’s scoring stemmed from field goals since its offense was shut down time and again by the New York defense. The Giants could not build on the strength of their defense.
One defining moment that was a turning point in the game occurred early, when New York’s primary kicker, Graham Gano, twisted his hamstring while trying to chase down Washington’s Austin Ekeler on the opening kickoff. Even though the play itself was canceled due to a penalty, Gano could not return to the game after the injury. With Gillan filling in for the injured Spagnola, New York scrambled in desperation, and they made punter Jamie Gillan attempt a few of the extra points, but he missed his lone try.
It resulted in a rather frustrating closure as New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll threw his headset in a reflection of frustration. This perhaps just about encapsulates the sadness that has been sweeping all across the Giants’ fandom. No team has ever been sufficiently devastated, so it makes the moment even more agonizing for them.
