Other Giant observations
Giants say loss of Saquon Barkley in locker room underestimated | ESPN.com
A handful of players told ESPN recently that the veteran running back’s presence was integral in helping keep the Giants together through a difficult 2023 season. After making the playoffs the previous year, the Giants were 2-8 when DeVito stepped in as the starter for injured quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor. They kept it together enough to win three straight games and finish 6-11.
“For me the biggest part of losing Saquon was the locker room aspect,” tight end Daniel Bellinger said. “Just having him as a leader and a guy that when there were times like, what do we do, he would be like ‘Go play!’ He brought an energy that sometimes we needed out there.”
So long, Darius?
Darius Slayton: Another year for Brian Daboll is warranted | New York Post
Wide receiver Darius Slayton said on Wednesday that he doesn’t believe they should because he believes Daboll has earned a fourth season. Slayton joined the Giants in 2019, so he was around for the firings of Pat Shurmur and Joe Judge.
“I think so,” Slayton said. “It’s been three years, I think another year to try to give him a chance to really get things rolling would be warranted.”
Ringing in 2025: New Year’s Resolutions for all 32 NFL teams | FOX Sports
New York Giants — No matter who he chooses for his general manager and coach for 2025, co-owner John Mara vows to practice restraint and patience. He’s run through six head coaches and four GMs in the last 10 years, which is an insane way to run a franchise. With a new, young quarterback presumably coming on board he can’t ruin him with constant upheaval. Whoever holds those offices in 2025 should get a guarantee they’ll hold them at least through 2027.

New York Giants’ Drew Lock excited for another opportunity in Week 18 | USAToday.com
“I would say you want to put together great games every single time you play. You need to put together 17 of them just to stay relevant and keep playing football,” he said. “Try to extend your career as long as you can. The only way you can do that is by putting good things on tape. Every chance you get, go out there and make it the best representation of yourself. That’s the plan every week.”
New Orleans attack sent shock waves through Giants locker room: ‘It’s sickening’ | New York Post
Malik Nabers spoke softly, the sadness in his voice impossible to miss.
The New Year’s tragedy in New Orleans that reawakened yet again the evil that lives among us and forced us to come to grips with another death toll and casualty count weighed heavily on Wednesday on the prized Giants rookie.
Giants wrap-up: Which players hit their incentives? What’s 2025 schedule look like? | The Athletic
The Giants’ 2025 opponents won’t be finalized until after this weekend’s games, but most of the matchups are known. As always, the Giants will play a pair of games against the three other teams in the NFC East. They’ll also play all of the teams from the NFC North and AFC West.
That’s a tough draw based on this season’s records. The AFC West is the best division in the AFC, with the Chiefs (15-1), Chargers (10-6) and Broncos (9-7) likely to make the playoffs. The NFC North is the best division in the NFL, with the Vikings (14-2), Lions (14-2) and Packers (11-5) all headed to the playoffs. The schedule will be rounded out by games against the last-place teams from the NFC South, NFC West and AFC East. That likely means matchups with the Panthers (4-12), 49ers (6-10) and Patriots (3-13).
Boomer Esiason ‘thankful’ Giants lost No. 1 pick | WFAN.com
“I’m actually thankful that they don’t have the No. 1 overall pick, to be honest with you. I don’t want either of these quarterbacks in New York,” Boomer said. “If I were a team that needed a coach and a quarterback – not named the New York Jets – wouldn’t it make sense for somebody to hire Brian Flores and bring Sam Darnold with him? If [the Giants] had the guts to go for Brian Flores as their head coach, Sam Darnold as their quarterback, and sign Tee Higgins as a free agent…it’s a different Sam. It’s a different guy.”
