Giants News: Kayvon Thibodeaux Looking To Make Statement In Week 1 Against Vikings

The New York Giants faced a massive letdown in 2023 after making the postseason in 2022. They took a step back and finished the season with a record of 6-11 on the year. It was a tough pill to swallow for the organization, especially after they signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a massive contract.

But heading into the 2024 season, New York is hopeful for better results. The Giants believe that they have the pieces in place to get themselves back to the postseason but it all starts how they begin the season.

New York is scheduled to play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 of the season, setting up a playoff rematch from 2022. New York took down the Vikings in that game, but both teams are in different places at this point. Star defender Kayvon Thibodeaux opened up about the upcoming game against the Vikings and said that he is looking to make a statement in the game.

“Resiliency. Physicality. Speed,” Thibodeaux told NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero on Friday’s The Insiders, which will air at 7 p.m. ET, in response to what statement he hopes the Giants make Week 1 against the Vikings. “We’re gonna play with all the things we played with back in the day. This is the 100th year anniversary of the Giants, so hopefully we can let those superpowers from our ancestors come and take over.”

With teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders in the NFC East, the path for the Giants looks daunting. But the NFC isn’t as strong as it used to be so a playoff appearance isn’t out of the question. New York added some talent in the offseason, namely star defender Brian Burns. Adding Burns will likely help the Giants on defense as they ranked 26th in the league last season. Thibodeaux praised the addition and said he is looking forward to playing with the All-Pro.

“It’s exciting, man,” Thibodeaux said about Burns’ arrival. “It’s exciting. Me and Brian, we have a similar body type. We have a similar style of play. But he’s a little bit different. He’s faster, he’s quicker. He’s obviously farther in his career than I am, so there’s a lot of gems he’s been giving me. And he’s been able to help up my game a little bit, and I’ve been competing with him, giving him a few things I know, and it’s been great so far. I’m excited to see what’s all to come from that.”

Starting the year with a win could be massive for the overall confidence of this team. The Giants want to put themselves back into championship contention and after a down year, see the opportunity. Now, they have to prove themselves out on the field otherwise, it could be another long year for Big Blue.
