Giants No. 13 in ESPN under-25 talent rankings

There has certainly been a lot of hubbub surrounding the New York Giants since the release of the first episode of the offseason ‘Hard Knocks’ special. Not all of it has been positive, but this ESPN ranking should bring some smiles to Giants fans’ faces.

The Giants were ranked No. 13 in ESPN’s under-25 talent rankings.

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz wrote:

2023 ranking: 6

Blue-chip players: EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux, CB Deonte Banks, WR Malik Nabers

Notable graduated players: OT Andrew Thomas, C John Michael Schmitz Jr.

Let’s start with the good: Thibodeaux, who had 11.5 sacks last season, doesn’t turn 24 until December. Cornerback Banks, last year’s first-round pick, allowed just 6.6 yards per pass in his rookie season and is also 23. So is Banks’ partner, 2022 third-round pick Cor’Dale Flott. And Micah McFadden has developed into a starting linebacker at age 24.

On offense, receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, 23, stepped up with 525 receiving yards and one touchdown last season, and tight end Daniel Bellinger (also 23) averaged 10.2 yards per catch. And we also have this year’s top draft picks who both will likely start: wide receiver Nabers (21) and safety Tyler Nubin (23).

However, the Giants dropped from last year’s ranking because some of their recent high draft picks were disappointing in 2023. Evan Neal ranked dead last among qualifying right tackles in pressure rate allowed. And edge rusher Azeez Ojulari had just 2.5 sacks. But both players still have growth potential, with Neal at age 23 and Ojulari at 24.

The Giants are smartly putting their faith in their youth. ESPN ranked the Giants 13th in under-25 talent.

The reason the Giants landed so high on this list is largely due to their young receiving corps. Between new Giant Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt, the Giants should have a triple threat that’s more than capable.

Those aren’t the only young weapons the Giants have. With the retirement of tight end Darren Waller, there should be plenty of opportunity for Daniel Bellinger and Theo Johnson. Even the questionable offensive line is young, with the oldest projected starter being Jermaine Eluemunor at 29.

As for the running back room, rookies Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Dante “Turbo” Miller along with second-year back Eric Gray will compete for playing time behind veteran Devin Singletary.

On defense, Thibodeaux and Banks are joined by defensive backs Cordale Flott, Tre Hawkins. and Andru Phillips, along with linebacker Micah McFadden as under-25 players to watch.
